Description
Summary:The territory, an area socially built, is Geography´s main purpose of research. Its contributions provides, among other aspects, the analysis of “materialness”; the physical and natural basis and the socially built ones. From a quantitative point of view, the district known as “Gran Buenos Aires” is the most populated in Argentina. In fact, the population living in it is ten times bigger than the population of other important cities such as “Gran Córdoba” and “Gran Rosario”, which are second and third in terms of extension and size. The intention of this research is the study of the territory based on the theorethical ideas of Geography, regarding to the conceptualization of the metropolitan area, combined with the use of quantitative variables. The National Institute of Statistic and Census (INDEC), provides the quantitative information about this metropolitan area population. The Geographic Information System´s technology is a highly attractive device to analyse the aspects of the “materialness” of the territory, stored in computer databases.
