Sumario:The objective of this research was to analyze the chemical composition of essential oil of shell, juice and seeds of Passiflora ligularis Juss or granadilla from Ecuador. The essential oils were obtained by microwave assisted hydrodistillation (MWHD) extraction method using Clevenger apparatus and were analyzed by gas chromatography mass spectrometry (GC-MS). Fifty compounds were identified altogether. The majority compounds were the squalene (34.92%), pentadecanal (15.28%) and ionol (19.16%) in shells, juice and seeds respectively. However, aromatic compounds, sesquiterpenes, alcohols, aldehydes and hydrocarbons were detected as minority compounds with potential utility in food and pharma industry. These results have not been reported and allow adding value to this kind of agricultural waste.
